xine A very good media player GPL users xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and VCDs. It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from local disk drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It interprets many of the most common multimedia formats available - and some of the most uncommon formats, too.

xine is included in SUSE Linux for a long time now. But a lot of codecs cannot be included due to patent issues. --Matthias

apt4rpm Advanced packaging tool, originally developed for the Debian Linux distribution. GPL Users This should be installed by default, since it is much more convenient to use than YOU. There are also many apt repositories for Suse Linux already available, still IMHO this should be the default way of updating Suse Linux.
  • apt-rpm is part of SUSE Linux 10.0
  • apt-rpm is dead and will most likely be dropped with the next SUSE Linux release
  • Check out the openSUSE mailinglist archive

--cthiel 04:30, 22 Sep 2005 (MDT)

apt should be included (but not default install) because:

  • apt-rpm is *not* dead and still very useful (last website update october).
  • apt does not have the dependency to python.
  • apt will make it easier for users to switch from apt-based distros.
  • still more apt repositories (like people using other distros rpms or alien to provide them)
  • get source packages, download only, get special versions, pin versions and other features not offered by yum, and still no need to fire up some (g)ui program.

--PlasmaHH

Exim MTA a featurefull MTA GPL user If this could be included, I´m sure people will appreciate it!!!

FUSE With FUSE it is possible to implement a fully functional filesystem in a userspace program. GPL users Needed for SSHFS (see below).

FUSe would also be really useful for implementing MacOSX-like packages e.g. klik. Paulatz

Tango_Desktop Icon theme that works with both KDE and Gnome GPL Me and probably anyone who has seen it. I recently installed the Firefox Tango theme and really like the look. The icons look great on my system. I went to the tango web site hoping to find a KDE theme but instead of usable icons they have a complex build system that uses programs that are not on my SuSE system in its (more or less) default install condition. It would be great if someone would put together a yast package to install a Tango theme on a SuSE 10 system.

The tango icons are part of SUSE Linux 10.1. --A jaeger 14:42, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
