About

YaST View System Log displays not only the system log, but various other bits of information. Upon loading, /var/log/messages is displayed. This is the primary log file for your system.

Note: This is the same log viewing system as the YaST View Start-up Log module.

This module, however, also displays the following: /var/log/*

  • /var/log/messages
  • /var/log/boot.msg
  • /var/log/faillog
  • /var/log/warn
  • /var/log/YaST2/y2log

/proc/*

  • /proc/cpuinfo
  • /proc/dma
  • /proc/interrupts
  • /proc/iomem
  • /proc/ioports
  • /proc/meminfo
  • /proc/modules
  • /proc/mounts
  • /proc/partitions
  • /proc/version

If you are having trouble with your system, these log files are essential in identifying the source of the problem. You should have this information prepared whenever you are asking for help.

This information will be queried automatically if you use the YaST Post a Support Query module to make a support request.
