SDB:SUSE 9.2: Black Screen after the Installation Menu
Version: 9.2
Symptom
When you launch the installation from CD or DVD, you get a black screen after selecting one of the installation options. Changing the boot parameters does not solve the problem. This symptom has been observed on a number of Fujitsu Siemens Scenic machines and some other computers.
Cause
The BIOS has difficulties handling multiple EDD
(Enhanced Disk Drive) calls. Both the boot loader on the installation CD and DVD and the kernel use this call.
Solution
Until a BIOS update which fixes this bug is available, use the following work-around. Keep the SHIFT
key pressed while booting from the CD or DVD in order to surpress the EDD
call of the boot loader.
A text menu will appear. Enter
linux
The installation should now work as usual.
