Installing StarOffice 6.0 from the ProOffice CD in SuSE Linux 8.1.

Procedure

As the ProOffice CD was especially designed as a patch CD for SuSE Linux 8.0, you have to take a different approach to install the StarOffice 6.0 application included in the CD in SuSE Linux 8.1.

Mount the ProOffice CD. We assume that the CD is mounted at /media/cdrom. If you use a different mount point, adjust the path accordingly in the following commands.

Open a terminal window and assume the system administrator identity (root) by entering the following command:

  sux -

Then execute the following commands:

  cd /media/cdrom/i386/update/8.0/pay9
  yast2 -i so_base.rpm so_en.rpm

Do not worry if you only see the YaST2 initialization screen for a long time. The package installation has already started, but it will take a few minutes.

Apart from this manual installation procedure, you can use YOU to download an optional package that will install StarOffice from the ProOffice CD in SuSE Linux 8.1.
