SDB:Unapplied Changes in K Menu

Symptom

Changes performed with the K menu editor are not applied.

Solution

Launch an online update and update the package "kdelibs3", group KDE Basic Libraries. Updating this package solves the problem of the unapplied menu changes.

If you cannot perform an update, apply the changes manually. Proceed as follows to make changes in the K menu editor take effect:

Perform the desired changes to the menu with the K menu editor.
Once the changes have been made, open a konsole and enter the following command:

kbuildsycoca --noincremental

As soon as this command is executed, the menu will display the changes.

In addition, you can use the program "kappfinder" to add further programs available in your system. Install the package "kdebase3-extra" for this purpose. After installing this package, "kappfinder" can be started from the command line.

To remove entries from the K menu, restoring the standard menu, execute the following command:

mv .config/menus .config/menus.old

The "*.desktop" files in the respective files at ".config/menus" are located in the ".local/share" directory. <keyword>menu,KDE,kmenu</keyword>
