SDB:Plain Text Passwords in LDAP

Symptom

You have configured your system as an LDAP client and realized that the users' passwords are stored in plain text on the LDAP server.

Reason

A missing entry in /etc/openldap/ldap.conf on the client system.

Solution

Append the following line to ldap.conf

pam_password     crypt

<keyword>pam_ldap,pam_unix2.conf,ldap-client,yast2-ldap-client,passwd,plain,crypt,crypted,passwort,klartext</keyword>
