SDB:KDE Reports Error

Symptom

The following error message is displayed after KDE starts: "Could not start Process: Unable to create IO-slave: Klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'devices.'"

This error may arise e.g. if the option 'Display devices on desktop' is activated in KDE Control Center -> Desktop -> Behavior.

Cause

The application kpersonalizer is missing.

Solution

Install the package kdebase3-extra by means of YaST. Note that this package is only available on the DVD. If you have not installed from DVD, you will have to set up the DVD installation source in YaST or copy the package kdebase3-extra.rpm on your hard disk and install it e.g. with Konqueror. Alternatively, you will also be able to download the package from our FTP server (ftp.suse.com/pub/suse) as soon as the FTP version is available. <keyword>kde,desktop,klauncher</keyword>
