SDB:8.2 Resource Manager
Version: 8.2
Situation
From SuSE Linux 8.2 on, access to certain hardware is granted to the users through a "resource manager" (in short, resmgr
). This resource manager makes it possible for the users to have, for example, write access on a CD writer or read access on a scanner without having to run any application other than resmgr
as root user.
By default, resmgr
is configured for logins via graphical login managers, such as KDM, GDM, or XDM. When logging in to the system in runlevel 3, resmgr
is disabled. Follow these steps to prepare for using resmgr
via a non-graphical login, too.
Procedure
To use resmgr
through a non-graphical login, append the following line to the file /etc/pam.d/login
:
session required pam_resmgr.so
Then log in again to apply the changes. For additional information about resmgr
, refer to /usr/share/doc/packages/resmgr/
.
