SDB:Changing the Preinstalled SMP Kernel

Situation

Because of the deployed CPU, a precompiled kernel with SMP support has been installed on your system during the SUSE LINUX installation. Now you would like to switch to the standard kernel without SMP support.

Procedure

  1. Start the YaST Control Center and open Software -> Install and Remove Software.
  2. Select Package Groups in Filter in the upper left corner.
  3. Mark the following entries in the displayed drop-down menu:
    • System
    • Kernel
  4. Right-click kernel-smp and select Delete from the context menu.
  5. Confirm the displayed pop-up warning.
  6. Right-click kernel-default and select Install from the context menu.
  7. Confirm the displayed pop-up warning.
  8. Click Accept in the lower right corner and conclude the installation changes.
  9. Exit the YaST Control Center and restart (reboot) your system so the modified kernel can be loaded and become effective.
