That's me babbling while at work in my home-office. Yes, of course... I am always dressed as nice like this when I am answering your emails and look for bugs... ;)

My Life at {S.u.S.E,SuSE,SUSE}

I started working for SUSE in March 1999 when I was in the 1st semster of my Computer Science study at the University of Applied Science Dortmund. I was bored and want to learn more about unix security so I started reviewing source-code and looking for bugs.. so after several hours hacking code in my flat-sharing community I found some bugs and informed the vendor about it... luckily it was S.u.S.E. :-) To make a short story shorter: After several bugs and emails I entered the SuSE Security-Team as second member. The first guy in the team was Marc Heuse who unfortunately left us some years ago.

Four years later, after I finished my diploma-thesis, I was offered a full-time job in 2003.

My Work at SUSE

Ok, what do I do at SUSE?
Most-time our team monitors public and private places to get information about new bugs. Each bug triggers a long process-chain of updating a package. Frankly, it's a boooring task... yes, yes it's important. ;-)
So what keeps me tick? Well, the freedom of choice regarding my work as well as the trust put into my little projects creates a nice working environment. Doing source-code reviews, holding external speaches, having the time to learn more about interesting topics, supporting the DIMVA conference, maintaining some packages, talking to my nice (and sometimes strange ;) colleagues gives me enough variety to make me happy.
