SUSE Linux 10.0 RC1 (Codename "Nürnberg")

  • KDE default installation needs manual addition of "amarok-xine" package to solve dependencies.
    • There are similar issues with Kaffeine
  • Installation on i586 systems is not possible since only a i686 glibc is on the media Bug #115834 Resolved.
  • All versions you can download here (and from the mirrors, of course) are coming without the commercial packages. These are packages with restricted licenses (i.e. non-GPL-licenses). So please don't file a bug-report on a `missing package' which is indeed a commercial package and hence not distributed with the OSS-version. Either download them from the repositories, build them yourself (...). Wishes about to-be-added packages should always be made on the Package Wishlist anyway. Thank you for taking this into account.
  • ATI 3D support is not working for many users even though the package from ATI's site has specific options for AMD64/SUSE 10.0.
  • High speed USB storage devices (harddisks, usb sticks, media players, ...) are working only with low data rates: Bug #105871

SUSE Linux 10.0 Beta 4 (Codename "Provo")

  • After a network installation, the network is not up at all. Reboot the machine or run a "rcnetwork restart". Bug #112909, resolved in RC1
  • suseplugger pops up after a new installation and informs about newly found hardware Bug #114427
  • The bug with grub ("no operating system found"), still exists.Bug #103031
  • Firefox doesn't work correctly if subdomain is started Bug #114350

Call for testing

  • We ask you to test all the PCMCIA and Cardbus-cards you have with beta4. We expect everything to work :) but a broader test is appreciated. Thanks in advance for a lot of helpful bugreports.

SUSE Linux 10.0 Beta 3 (Codename "Bangalore")

  • A GNOME installation cannot resolve all software dependencies, go into "Software" and add one of the two packages offered (either kdebase3-SuSE or apache2).
  • kdm does not switch to utf8, add the following to /etc/init.d/xdm Bug #112774 :
 . /etc/profile.d/lang.sh
  • udev gives a number of error messages during boot Bug #112820
  • Wrong firmware-loader script called by udev causing ipw2100/ipw2200 load failures. Bug #112915

Call for testing

  • We ask everybody for a short check of power management and suspend. Please try suspend-to-disk and if you notice any problems after resuming please make a bugzilla-entry containing the following logfiles:
- the output of /usr/share/doc/packages/powersave/powersave_logs (a file named powersave_logs.tar.gz)
- the output of hwinfo --all --log /tmp/hwinfo.txt (file /tmp/hwinfo.txt)
  • It would be very helpful if you could try suspend-to-ram, too, but before doing so, please read /usr/share/doc/packages/powersave/README.suspend2ram. Also, there is a good introduction into suspend troubleshooting on SUSEWiki.org [1]. Please have a look at Bugs:Suspend Failure before reporting those bugs.

SUSE Linux 10.0 Beta 2 (Codename "Boston")

SUSE Linux 10.0 OSS Beta 2 does contain OpenOffice.org, the hard dependency to Sun Java has been removed.

  • Beta2 is not fully translated - a lot has been done but we're expecting some more translations for beta3. Do not report missing translations, but please report wrongly or misleading translated messages.
  • On some systems the bootloader might not work - in these cases we advice to install the bootloader in the MBR Bug #103031, fixed in beta3.
  • The kernel has a broken SATA cdrom support and will not install on machines with SATA cdroms/burners. Bug #102543, fixed in beta3.
  • KDE uses a backported KDEMM multimedia system. Most important applications has been ported from aRts to kdemm. Knotify seems to have a problem with this at the moment. A "killall knotify" solves the problem for some time. Bug #104078, fixed in beta3.
  • Scrollkeeper slows down the SuSEconfig run at the end of the installation. Bug #59833
  • Kontact is installed when GNOME desktop is chosen due to dependency of TaskJuggler. Either TaskJuggler shouldn't be installed when GNOME is selected or TaskJuggler needs to depend on something else. Bug #104454
  • Dualhead configuration using the radeon Xorg driver is broken Bug#104640
  • Non-WPA wireless encryption modes are broken. Try adding PREFER_WPA_SUPPLICANT='no' to the ifcfg-wlan config file. Bug #104117, fixed in beta3.
